Cheluvamba Mansion, Royal residence in Mysore, India
Cheluvamba Mansion is a palace in Mysore featuring two prominent domed towers at its main entrance, extensive pillared verandahs, and detailed stone carvings throughout its exterior. The structure now houses a research institute, with visitor access limited to viewing the outside.
Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV commissioned this mansion in 1910 for his third daughter Princess Cheluvajammanni. It was built as part of the collection of royal residences in Mysore during that period.
The architecture shows the preferences of the Wadiyar dynasty through semi-classical Indian design with intricate wooden craftsmanship and traditional motifs. Visitors can still see the detailed stone carvings and elaborate verandahs that reflect royal taste from that era.
The mansion is located about 2 kilometers from Mysore Junction railway station and is reachable on foot or by a short taxi ride. Visitors should note that only exterior views are accessible since the building is currently occupied by a research organization.
The roof includes a garden with fountains and stone seating areas that preserve its original royal garden design. This green space remains one of the least noticed features of the whole property.
