St. Bartholomew's Church, Mysore

St. Bartholomew's Church is an Anglican place of worship in Mysore featuring a single-story design with tall columns and stained glass windows. A separate bell tower on Nilgiri Road serves as a distinctive architectural element of the compound.

The building was constructed in 1832 under orders from the Madras Government to serve East India Company troops. The land was supported by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, and the site was consecrated by Bishop Turner from Calcutta.

The church demonstrates the collaboration between Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III and British residents through the gifted land and continued patronage.

The church is located near Mysore's suburban bus stand and can be reached fairly easily. Visiting is usually free, though you should check locally about access times since regular services and community events may affect when visitors can enter.

The bell in the tower was cast by the French in the 17th century and originally hung in a French army chapel. It was later brought to Mysore and remains a rare example of French craftsmanship in the region.
