Railway Museum Mysore

The Railway Museum Mysore is a transport museum near the city center that displays vintage locomotives, railway signals, and equipment in outdoor spaces. The collection shows different types of vehicles and machinery from various periods of Indian railway history.

The museum was founded in 1979 as India's second railway museum and has been collecting artifacts from the railway industry ever since. It houses locomotives and original equipment from the era of Mysore State Railways.

Two preserved coaches that once carried the Wodeyar kings are displayed here, showing how railways connected to Indian royalty and power. Visitors can see the craftsmanship and design that reflected the status of these royal passengers.

The museum is located near the city center and can be reached easily by public transport or car. Plan to spend a few hours exploring the outdoor displays, especially during cooler parts of the day.

Among the exhibits is a 1925 Austin car that was originally built for roads but was later specially modified to run on railway tracks. This unusual vehicle shows the creativity people used to adapt transportation in different ways.
