Vazhachal Falls

Vazhachal Falls, Waterfall in Thrissur district, India

Vazhachal Falls drops about 120 meters in multiple stages down the Chalakudy River, with powerful water flows rushing through thick forest. The landscape is shaped by rocky formations and dense greenery on both sides of the cascading water.

The falls formed over thousands of years as the Chalakudy River carved through the rocks of the Western Ghats. This natural process created the dramatic drops you see today in this ancient mountain range.

Local people have long gathered medicinal plants from the forests around the falls and turned them into natural remedies. You can see evidence of these practices when walking through the area.

Reaching the falls is easiest by bus or taxi from Chalakudy town, which takes about half an hour. The walk from the entrance to the water is short, but expect steps and slippery rocks, especially when it has rained.

Four endangered hornbill species live in the forest here, and while they are hard to spot, their loud calls echo through the trees. These rare birds make this a key conservation area within the Western Ghats.
