Thindal Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple located on a hilltop in Erode district, rising approximately 60 meters above ground level. The site spans several acres with a main shrine dedicated to the deity Murugan at its center.
The temple was built in the 9th century during the Chola dynasty period and stands in the ancient region of Kongunadu. This area was previously ruled by the Chera Kings before the Chola expansion.
The temple holds spiritual importance as one of the ancient sacred sites celebrated in the Tirupugazh hymns, an old poetic composition honoring pilgrimage destinations. Visitors come to experience the religious practices that have shaped this location's meaning over centuries.
The temple operates during two daily time periods, with morning and afternoon sessions available for visitors. Free meals are served daily to worshippers and guests at a set time around midday.
A natural spring called Theertha Sunai flows within the temple grounds and is used for ceremonial purposes. Visitors receive water from this spring, which locals consider spiritually significant.
