Experimental Theater

The Experimental Theater at the National Centre for the Performing Arts is a black box space with 300 modular seats that can be rearranged for different productions. The flexible staging setup allows performers and audiences to be positioned in various configurations depending on the type of show.

This space opened in 1986 as part of efforts to expand performing arts facilities in Mumbai. The creation of this theater reflected growing investment in the city's cultural infrastructure at that time.

The venue hosts avant-garde productions, classical music, dance performances, and adaptations of traditional stories that draw diverse audiences from across the city. Visitors can observe how artists experiment with mixing different performance styles in a single space.
