Baroda House is a mansion in New Delhi that combines European and Indian architectural elements across its sprawling grounds. The building now serves as the Zonal Headquarters of Northern Railways.
Edwin Lutyens designed this building in 1921 as a residence for the Maharaja of Baroda. The project took approximately 15 years to complete.
The building represents the architectural legacy of princely states during British India, standing alongside other notable residences like Hyderabad House and Bikaner House. The facade blends European and Indian design elements that remain visible today.
The building sits on Kasturba Gandhi Marg next to Faridkot House and is relatively easy to locate. Keep in mind it functions as an administrative headquarters, so public access is limited.
The construction was overseen by Sir Sobha Singh, an entrepreneur known for his elaborate building projects in Delhi. His involvement made the project a significant undertaking in colonial architecture.
