Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple, Hindu temple at Nandi Hills, India
Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is a shrine complex in Nandi Hills with three main temples built from granite and black stone. The site includes several gathering halls and showcases detailed stone carving throughout its grounds.
The temple was founded in the 9th century under the Nolamba dynasty and later received contributions from the Ganga, Chola, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara rulers. Each ruling period left its own architectural mark on the site.
The three main shrines tell different stories about Lord Shiva through their design and decorations. You can see these differences reflected in the carvings and the way each shrine is built and arranged.
The temple sits roughly 60 kilometers from Bangalore and is reachable by bus or auto-rickshaw from nearby towns. Early morning or late afternoon visits work best to avoid the heat during the day.
The temple is connected to a story where the sacred bull Nandi created a water source by pushing its horn into the ground. This tale is still visible today through the Sringeri Teertha pond on the grounds.
