Devanahalli Fort, Military fort in Devanahalli, India
The granite fort extends across 20 acres with twelve semi-circular bastions and multiple gates featuring detailed plasterwork on the eastern and western entrances.
Built in 1501 by chieftain Malla Byre Gowda as a mud structure, the fort changed rulers until Lord Cornwallis captured it during the Anglo-Mysore War in 1791.
The fort complex contains several Hindu temples, including the Venugopalaswamy Temple with its carved reliefs and mythological representations on stone walls.
Located 35 kilometers north of Bengaluru near the International Airport, the fort remains open throughout the day without entrance fees for visitors.
The fort marks the birthplace of Tipu Sultan with a six-foot memorial structure situated 150 meters southwest of the main complex.
