Umbharat Beach, Black sand beach in Gujarat, India.
Umbharat Beach is a black sand beach on the Arabian Sea near Navsari, in the state of Gujarat. The shoreline is wide and slopes gently toward the water, flanked by coastal vegetation and scattered dunes.
Umbharat was once mainly a fishing community and gradually became a day-trip destination for visitors from the surrounding region. The development of basic facilities along the shore reflects this shift over time.
Fishing families have shaped this beach for generations, and visitors can buy fresh catch and local snacks directly on the shore. The food here follows coastal Gujarati cooking traditions that are still alive today.
The beach is reached via the Vanshi-Borsi-Dipla-Umbharat road, which leads to a parking area with restrooms and drinking water nearby. A daytime visit is recommended, as the area is not set up for visitors after dark.
The sand here is naturally black due to volcanic minerals present in the sediment, which gives the shore a rare appearance. This sets it apart from the pale sandy beaches found along most of India's western coast.
