Pathani Samanta Planetarium

Pathani Samanta Planetarium is an astronomy center in Bhubaneswar featuring a modern domed theater that projects celestial objects and astronomical phenomena. Daily presentations explore the universe through digital shows designed for educational learning.

Construction began in 1986 and the building opened to the public in 1990 as an educational facility for the city. A major digital system upgrade arrived in 2012 to modernize the presentations and visitor experience.

The name honors Indian astronomer Pathani Samanta, and stone carvings throughout the building depict his observations and discoveries. These artworks make his scientific work visible to visitors walking through the halls.

Shows run daily in English, Hindi, and Odia from Tuesday through Sunday at various times. Check the language availability beforehand to find a session that suits your group.

The grounds feature a working sundial where visitors can observe how the sun moves across the sky throughout the day. The site also hosts special sky watching events during major celestial occurrences such as eclipses or meteor showers.
