Aayiram Kaliamman Temple

Aayiram Kaliamman Temple is a Hindu sanctuary in Tirumalairayanpattinam with a wooden statue of Goddess Kali whose parts are stored separately in individual wooden compartments throughout the year. This arrangement of the deity makes the temple's layout and purpose immediately visible to those who enter.

According to local records, a devotee from the Senguntha Mudaliar community discovered a silver box holding the statue after experiencing a dream about its location. This discovery marked the beginning of worship at this site.

During the Tamil month of Vaikasi, devotees gather here for a three-day celebration where traditional rituals shape how people spend their time together. Visitors see how the community comes together to mark this occasion with their spiritual practices.

The sanctuary opens most days at 7 AM and closes at 12:30 PM, then reopens at 4 PM until 9 PM in the evening. Special ceremonies occur less frequently, so it's worth asking locals about timing before planning your visit.

During the grand ceremony held every five years, over one thousand different items are used in the ritual practices at this site. This extraordinary number makes the rare event something special that draws visitors from far away.
