Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum

Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum sits on Bhujiyo Dungar hill and spreads across a large area divided into several thematic sections. The grounds include exhibition blocks, water retention structures, and walking paths that guide visitors through the space.

Following the devastating 2001 earthquake in Gujarat, authorities decided to create a memorial at this location to honor those affected. The site opened to the public several years after the disaster.

The exhibition explores earth sciences and local geology while showing how communities rebuilt after the disaster through interactive displays. Visitors can see how people worked together to restore their area and learn about earthquake preparedness.

The site can be visited most days of the week, with different opening times for the exhibition areas and outdoor grounds. It is helpful to wear comfortable shoes since there are many paths to explore throughout the space.

The grounds contain a rapidly growing forest with hundreds of thousands of planted trees that are transforming the landscape. Visitors can also experience a simulation that recreates the force of an earthquake.
