Eram Zoo, Zoological garden in District 5, Tehran, Iran.
Eram Zoo is a zoological facility covering about 4.5 hectares within Eram Amusement Park, where approximately 290 animal species can be found. The collection includes Persian leopards, tigers, chimpanzees, and many other species from different climates and habitats.
The facility opened in 1992 after moving from its previous location at Doshan Tappeh. This relocation continued a long tradition of animal exhibitions that had existed in Tehran since the Qajar period.
The zoo serves as a place where city residents encounter animals from around the world and learn about their conservation needs. Visitors observe large predators, primates, and other species while staff members share information about their habitats and the challenges they face.
The zoo is easily accessible from the main highway and sits about 4 kilometers from the Tehran-Karaj Expressway. Guided tours and educational programs are available throughout the year for visitors seeking to learn more about wildlife conservation.
The zoo participated in an exchange program where Persian leopards were traded for Siberian tigers intended for release in the Miankaleh Peninsula. This program showed how the facility contributed to international efforts to protect endangered species.
