Milad Tower, Communication tower in District 2, Tehran, Iran
Milad Tower is a 435-meter reinforced concrete structure in District 2 of Tehran that serves as a television and observation tower. The construction contains multiple platforms with viewing decks, technical rooms for telecommunications, galleries and a restaurant that rotates slowly.
Planning for this tower began in the second half of the 1970s as part of an urban development project in central Tehran. After years of interruptions, construction resumed in earnest during the late 1990s and finally reached completion in 2008.
The tower design brings together traditional Persian architectural elements with a modern glass facade that reflects sunlight during the day. Visitors notice the geometric patterns inside that recall classic carpet art and mosaics from Iranian mosques.
Several elevators bring visitors up to different levels within a few minutes, with upper observation platforms offering open views across the city. The complex provides large parking areas below, making arrival by private vehicle convenient.
The restaurant in the upper level completes a full rotation in about 90 minutes and is considered the largest rotating dining facility of its kind worldwide. Guests can observe the entire horizon of the city during a meal without changing their seat.
