Arasbaran

The Arasbaran region encompasses 72,460 hectares of diverse landscapes between the Qūshā Dāgh massif and Aras River, featuring mountains, forests, and alpine meadows.

The region served as a stronghold for Babak Khorramdin's resistance against the Islamic Caliphate during the ninth century, as documented by historians Al-Masudi and Ibn Athir.

The local population of 23,500 nomads maintains traditional practices through agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, and the creation of distinctive carpet weaving patterns.

Visitors can access multiple hiking trails, summer camps, and natural hot springs throughout the reserve, with guided tours available from nearby urban centers.

The reserve contains 2,400 plant species, 250 fungi varieties, and numerous mammals including red deer across elevations ranging from 256 to 2,896 meters.
