Afifabad Garden, Persian garden and military museum complex in Shiraz, Iran.
Afifabad Garden is a garden complex in Shiraz, Iran, built in the Qajar architectural style, with a two-story mansion at its center surrounded by symmetrical paths and water channels. The grounds also contain a weapons museum, a traditional bathhouse, a teahouse, and a small moral museum.
The garden was founded in 1863 under the name Gulshan Garden and served as a private palace during the Qajar period. In 1991, part of the site was converted into a weapons museum and opened to the public.
The garden follows a classical Persian layout from the Qajar era, with straight paths, water channels, and a central mansion that visitors can enter and explore. The decorative elements inside the mansion reflect the tastes and craftsmanship of 19th-century Iranian court life.
The site is made up of several separate areas, so plan for enough time to walk through all of them without rushing. Visiting in the morning is generally more comfortable, as the gardens tend to be less crowded early in the day.
The weapons museum holds one of the largest arms collections in Iran, with pieces spanning many centuries of Persian history. Some of the exhibits are displayed outdoors, placed directly among the garden paths so visitors encounter them as they walk through the grounds.
