Laleh Park, Urban park near Tehran University, Iran
Laleh Park is a spacious green area in Tehran with mature trees including silver cypress, oak, maple, and acacia providing shade throughout its grounds. The park features sports facilities, children's playgrounds, cycling paths, chess tables, fountains, and a separate Japanese garden section.
The site began as a military parade ground until 1966 when it became a public park. It was renamed Laleh after 1979, replacing its former name Farah Park.
The park serves as a gathering place where Tehranis walk, rest on the lawns, and spend time with family and friends throughout the day. Different zones show how the city created a space where people from various backgrounds naturally mix and share the same public grounds.
The park is easy to navigate with multiple paths for walking and cycling across its flat, well-maintained grounds. Visitors are best served arriving in early morning or late afternoon during warmer months, when the shade from tall trees is most comfortable.
A sundial installation demonstrates timekeeping through solar position, while sculptures of Persian scholars Khayyam and Al-Biruni are placed throughout the gardens. These elements blend science and history into the everyday landscape in quiet ways.
