Radio City Cinema

Radio City Cinema is a movie theater in District 6 of Tehran featuring a curved facade with expansive glass panels and a spiral staircase within its two-story steel, glass, and marble structure. The main hall has a wide screen, marble floors, and red velvet seating throughout.

The cinema opened on September 18, 1958 with a French-Italian film featuring Brigitte Bardot as its inaugural presentation. It emerged during a period when modern entertainment venues became central to Tehran's urban development.

The cinema served as a gathering place for Tehran's educated classes and young people during the Pahlavi II era, reflecting its status through refined architecture and prominent location. It functioned as a social hub where audiences came together for cultural entertainment.

The cinema is centrally located in District 6 and easily accessible for pedestrians from the surrounding area. The entrance is clearly marked, and the interior layout is straightforward, making navigation simple for all visitors.

In 1965, audience members released live pigeons inside the cinema during a screening of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, mirroring the film's narrative. This unexpected action shows how deeply viewers connected with the story unfolding on screen.
