Baba Qasem Mausoleum

Baba Qasem Mausoleum is a funerary structure in Isfahan with an eight-layered conical dome made of brick and plaster. The rectangular building features calligraphic inscriptions on its surfaces and represents an important example of medieval burial architecture from the region.

The mausoleum was built in 1341 by a student named Sulayman to honor the Sufi mystic Baba Qasem. Its architecture blends Ilkhanid and Safavid style elements, reflecting artistic evolution across centuries.

The building displays traditional Persian ornamentation through Quranic verses and geometric patterns in tile and plaster work. These decorations reflect how religious devotion and artistic craft became intertwined in burial architecture.

The building stands near Isfahan's main mosque and remains open to visitors from early morning through evening. The location is easy to reach when exploring the city on foot.

A wooden door inscribed with classical Arabic calligraphy opens into the domed chamber where the grave itself sits enclosed by a wooden lattice structure. This handcrafted detail reveals the personal reverence maintained for this sacred site.
