Castle of Moncalieri, Medieval castle and national museum in Moncalieri, Italy
The Castle of Moncalieri rises on a hill near Turin, featuring four square towers at its corners and a horseshoe-shaped layout overlooking the Po River.
Built as a fortress by Thomas I of Savoy in the 12th century, the castle transformed into a royal residence under Yolanda of Valois in the mid-17th century.
The castle includes numerous royal chambers that display the lifestyle of the House of Savoy and hosts exhibitions within its historical halls.
The castle opens to visitors from Friday to Sunday, with guided tours available through its state rooms and the surrounding Italian-style gardens.
Since 1921, the castle functions as headquarters for the first Battalion of Carabinieri while maintaining public access to its historical chambers.
