Sangone

The Sangone is a mountain creek in Piedmont that descends from Colle Roussa and flows through changing landscapes before joining the Po River. It starts in steep terrain where the gradient is steep, then gradually transitions into gentler slopes as it reaches the lowlands.

In the early 1900s, swimming facilities lined the creek's banks and drew visitors from Turin seeking recreation during summer. This period shows how important the waterway became as a place for local people to spend leisure time.

Singer-songwriter Gipo Farassino composed 'Sangon Blues,' incorporating the creek into regional musical heritage through his artistic expression.

The creek flows through mountain regions with steep banks and later through flatter zones where access is easier. Water levels vary seasonally, so it is better to visit during wetter months when the creek carries more water.

Rare fish species adapted to cold spring water live in the mountain sections, making these upper reaches biologically distinctive. The Belle Rosin mausoleum stands nearby along the banks, an unexpected historical structure within the natural landscape.
