Temple of Minerva, Roman temple in Assisi, Italy.
The Temple of Minerva displays six tall Corinthian columns supporting an architrave, with a small pediment at the top of its facade.
Built in the first century BCE by Gnaeus Caesius and Titus Caesius Priscus, the temple stood as a central element of the Roman forum.
The structure transformed from a Roman temple into a Christian church named Santa Maria sopra Minerva through a papal decree in 1539.
The temple opens daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM in winter and extends to 10:00 PM during summer months, with free admission for visitors.
German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe documented this temple as the first intact ancient monument he encountered during his 1786 Italian journey.
