Lignano Sabbiadoro, Beach resort commune in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
Lignano Sabbiadoro is a coastal commune in northeastern Italy on the Adriatic, whose fine sandy beach stretches over eight kilometers. The settlement offers sports facilities, numerous restaurants and recreational venues along the flat coastline.
The place developed into a seaside resort from 1926 onward, after a road to Latisana had been built. In 1931 the settlement gained the status of an independent commune.
The three districts each carry their own name and show different building styles, from the dense center through pine-lined residential streets to the seafront promenades. Visitors notice the division while walking, when the townscape shifts from shopping rows to quieter zones with small parks.
Most accommodations concentrate near the beach, while camping sites sit slightly further inland. Those who wish to walk by the water early in the morning will find the beach almost empty before the busier afternoon hours.
At several points along the coast lie marina facilities with a total of about 5,000 berths for boats and yachts. Visitors can reach the docking sites around Punta Faro and Marina Uno on foot and watch sailors prepare their vessels.
