Ravello

Ravello is a commune on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, sitting 350 meters above sea level on a clifftop. From its many terraces, you can look out over the Mediterranean and the surrounding mountains.

The town was founded in the 9th century as part of the maritime Republic of Amalfi and developed into a major Mediterranean trading center until 1200. Its strategic location made it a key meeting point for merchants from the East.

Villa Rufolo's gardens host the annual festival every summer, continuing a musical tradition that began when Wagner found inspiration here in 1880. The performances take place outdoors and draw visitors from around the world.

Getting there involves taking SITA buses from Amalfi along the narrow coastal road, with the trip taking around 30 minutes. The paths inside the town are steep and involve stairs, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

The Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone extends over the Gulf of Salerno and is decorated with marble busts from the 18th century. Its balustrade facing south is often chosen for wedding ceremonies.
