San Giovanni del Toro, Medieval church in Ravello, Italy
The church structure features a slender bell tower in Arab-Sicilian style and a facade with three entrance portals that open into the main sanctuary.
The church received its consecration in the 11th century and underwent substantial repairs following earthquake damage in 1715, with additional restoration work in the 1990s.
The 13th-century pulpit displays intricate mosaics depicting biblical scenes, including Jonah emerging from the whale, alongside Syrian pottery with Arabic inscriptions.
Located at Piazzetta San Giovanni del Toro 3, visitors can request access to the church interior through the office at Via San Giovanni del Toro 50.
The reading desk of the pulpit rests upon an eagle sculpture holding an open book displaying the first sentence of the Gospel of John.
