Chiesa di Sant'Antonio, Medieval church in Amalfi, Italy
The Sant'Antonio Church features a single nave with 18th-century paintings and early 20th-century statues of saints including Saint Anthony and Saint Francis.
The church and its adjacent monastery were established in 1220, according to local records indicating Saint Francis visited Amalfi to view Saint Andrew's relics.
Local residents gather at the church for the Palm Sunday procession, which begins at the Cathedral and proceeds through the streets of central Amalfi.
The monastery's cloister opens to visitors only during the afternoon of Saint Anthony's feast day, displaying pointed arches from the medieval period.
A small frescoed crypt beneath the church, decorated with scenes from Saint Francis's life, is considered the original monastery founded by the saint.
