Diocesan Museum of Amalfi

The Diocesan Museum occupies the Basilica del Crocifisso, a ninth-century structure that demonstrates classical elements of Romanesque architecture throughout its halls.

The museum building originated in 596 and underwent substantial modifications in 1100 when builders constructed a new cathedral adjacent to form a six-aisle church.

The museum collection contains precious liturgical objects, sacred garments, and two Roman sarcophagi from the second century depicting mythological scenes.

Located at Salita Episcopio 3 in Amalfi, the museum received 320,000 visitors in 2018 and maintains full accessibility for wheelchair users.

The museum preserves fragments of a Romanesque ambon dated between 1174 and 1202, decorated with intricate mosaics from the Cosmatesque school.
