Gardeccia refuge, Mountain hut in Pozza di Fassa, Italy.
Gardeccia refuge is a mountain hut situated at 1949 meters in a natural basin surrounded by the peaks of Catinaccio, Larsèc, and the Vajolet Towers. The lodge offers rooms and meals and serves as a starting point for hikes and mountain excursions in this section of the Dolomites.
The hut was founded in 1902 to lodge English and German mountaineers exploring this alpine region. The Desilvestro family has continuously managed and shaped the refuge since its establishment.
The kitchen preserves local culinary traditions through dishes prepared according to regional recipes, complemented by wines and beers from the surrounding area. Visitors can experience the flavors of the Dolomites and understand how people here eat and gather together.
You can reach the hut on foot or by mountain bike from several locations including Ciampedie, Pera di Fassa, the Muncion hamlet, or the Vajolet Valley. Sturdy footwear and preparation for mountain weather are important, as you will be at high altitude where conditions can change rapidly.
The refuge operates with changing patterns across seasons, and during winter months it offers dinner service only for groups of eight or more guests. This makes it an ideal spot for groups seeking a shared mountain experience under special conditions.
