Cinisi, Coastal commune in Metropolitan City of Palermo, Italy.
Cinisi is a coastal commune in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, situated at an elevation of roughly 75 meters (245 feet). The town spreads across about 33 square kilometers of Sicilian territory and is served by two railway stations along the Palermo-Trapani line.
The area held significance during Sicily's Norman period and was shaped by different rulers over centuries. In modern times, the town gained its current administrative status in 2015 when the Province of Palermo was restructured into a Metropolitan City.
The main square of this coastal town comes alive during Carnival, when residents gather to watch papier-mâché floats parade down Corso Umberto I. This street forms the heart of community life where locals and visitors experience the town's festive traditions.
The town is easily accessible by train, with two stations on the Palermo-Trapani line offering quick connections to larger cities. The international airport Falcone-Borsellino is also located within the municipality, making arrivals and departures convenient for visitors from outside the region.
The childhood home of anti-mafia activist Giuseppe Impastato, killed in 1978, still stands on Corso Umberto I and welcomes visitors today. This memorial preserves a local story of resistance against organized crime in Sicily.
