Monte Sannace Archeological Park, Archaeological park in Gioia del Colle, Italy.
Monte Sannace Archaeological Park is an excavation site with ruins of an ancient settlement spanning about 50 hectares, including defensive walls and various structures. The grounds lie in the Murge region and reveal the traces of a once-thriving community.
Systematic research of the site began in 1929 under Michele Gervasio's direction. The discoveries span from the Iron Age to the early Roman period, showing a long history of human settlement.
The site displays remains of the Peuceti, an ancient people of the region, with distinct areas for governance and daily living. You can observe how this old society organized its space.
The grounds offer two marked routes: one for the archaeological ruins and one highlighting the Mediterranean plants of the area. Both paths are manageable and let visitors explore at their own pace.
The University of Bari has conducted active research since 1999 and regularly documents new findings. This ongoing scientific work makes the site a living place of discovery.
