Monte Vioz

Monte Vioz is a 3,645-meter (11,959-foot) peak in the Ortler Alps characterized by extensive glaciation across its slopes. The summit sits amid snow and ice fields that shape the surrounding landscape and influence climbing conditions throughout the year.

The mountain served as a strategic location during World War I, when military forces constructed fortifications in this harsh Alpine terrain. Remnants of trenches and observation posts from the conflict remain visible on the north ridge today.

Local mountaineering clubs organize annual summer expeditions to Monte Vioz, maintaining traditions of Alpine climbing passed through generations of Italian mountaineers.
