Cima Nera, Mountain summit in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Cima Nera is a mountain summit in Trentino-Alto Adige that rises to 3,037 meters between three adjoining valleys. Its southwestern face drops away sharply as a dramatic rock wall visible from surrounding areas.
The mountain was part of the Alpine front during World War I and still bears marks from that period. Trenches and fortified positions remain visible along the slopes.
The mountain stands within Stelvio National Park, where local communities maintain traditions of Alpine farming and seasonal mountain refuge operations.
The summit can be reached via marked trails from Malga Prabon or from Rifugio Larcher at 2,608 meters (8,556 feet). Overnight stays at the refuge provide a good base for an early morning ascent.
A wooden cross stands at the summit alongside remnants of wartime fortifications. From this vantage point, visitors can look down into three different valleys at once.
