San Biagio Maggiore, Secularized church in historic Naples, Italy.

San Biagio Maggiore is a former church at the intersection of Via San Biagio dei Librai and Via San Gregorio Armeno, built in Neapolitan Baroque style. The building displays typical features of this architectural period with ornate decorations and structures preserved in the interior spaces.

A cardinal founded the church in 1631 by joining an existing chapel with a sacristy. This merger created a new religious space that met growing community needs.

The name comes from Saint Blaise, whose veneration arrived with Armenian monks and drew local followers. Today visitors can see how the religious purpose shaped the decoration and layout of the interior spaces.

The building is now managed by a cultural foundation and serves as their main office following extensive renovation work. Visitors should check in advance whether the interior is accessible, as it functions as a private office space.

The church preserves the ashes of a renowned 17th-century physician who assisted during plague outbreaks in Naples. This historical memory connects the place to a time of great suffering and human compassion.
