Monte Serra, Mountain summit in Tuscany, Italy

Monte Serra is a mountain summit in the Apennines standing at 914 meters and accessed via the SP56 road, which winds upward through nine hairpin curves. The route passes through varied terrain and culminates in broad views over the surrounding Tuscan landscape.

This summit has long served as a landmark for maritime navigation, helping sailors approach the Tuscan coast safely across centuries. Its role as a reference point gave the peak enduring importance to the region.

The summit restaurant serves as a gathering place where local people share traditional Tuscan food while gazing toward Pisa and the Mediterranean shore. The setting reflects how this peak connects the mountain community to the coastal landscape beyond.

The ascent from Calci covers around 12 kilometers with a steady climb that challenges most visitors, particularly those less accustomed to uphill effort. Bring plenty of water and plan for a leisurely pace, as sun exposure increases higher up where shelter is scarce.

On clear days, observers can spot three Mediterranean islands from the peak: Gorgona, Capraia, and Corsica. This wide sight line reveals how the mountain stands positioned between mountain ranges and open sea.
