Monte Serra, Mountain summit in Tuscany, Italy
Monte Serra reaches 914 meters above sea level in the Apennine mountains and features nine hairpin turns along the SP56 road to its peak.
The mountain has long served as a reference point for maritime navigation, guiding ships approaching the Tuscan coast through the centuries.
Local residents gather at the summit restaurant during summer evenings to share traditional Tuscan meals while looking over Pisa and the Mediterranean coast.
The ascent from Calci extends 12.2 kilometers with an average gradient of 7.1 percent, requiring approximately one hour for experienced cyclists.
From the summit, observers can spot three Mediterranean islands: Gorgona Scalo, Capraia, and Corsica on days with clear visibility.
