Birra Moretti, Italian brewery in Udine, Italy
Birra Moretti is an Italian brewery based in Udine that produces a pale lager following traditional methods. The process uses barley malt, hops, water and yeast, all brewed under controlled temperature conditions.
Luigi Moretti founded the brewery in 1859 in northeastern Italy and built it into a nationally recognized brand. In 1995 it became part of the Heineken Group, expanding its distribution beyond Italy.
The brand name appears on taps in trattorias across the peninsula and is often poured into small glasses during long evening meals shared among friends. The label showing a moustachioed man in a hat has become a familiar sign of Italian conviviality.
The beer develops its full flavor when served between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius (41 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit) and complements pizza, pasta and other regional dishes well. You can find it in many restaurants and bars across Italy and beyond.
The logo showing the moustachioed man dates from 1942 and depicts a real customer photographed in an osteria. This image has remained unchanged on all bottles and glasses ever since.
