The church features a Greek cross layout divided into three naves, with a prominent porphyry column marking its historical significance in the square.
The current structure replaced an earlier chapel in 1786, designed by architect Francesco Sicuro following a destructive fire in the Piazza Mercato area.
The building marks the execution site of Conradin of Swabia in 1268, with an inscribed column preserving this pivotal moment in Naples history.
The structure remains closed to visitors due to damages from the 1980 earthquake, with its artworks now stored in Castel Nuovo museum.
The church incorporates an ancient leather workers' coat of arms, connecting the religious structure to the commercial traditions of Naples market district.
