Castro is an archaeological site in Ischia di Castro containing fortifications and building remains from multiple periods. The site reveals how settlements evolved from Etruscan and Roman times through the medieval era.

The settlement began in ancient times and later became an independent town under papal authority. In 1649, it was completely destroyed during armed conflict and never rebuilt afterward.

A stone inscription marks the spot with the words "Qui fu Castro," meaning "Here stood Castro." This simple marker commemorates a vanished world that disappeared centuries ago.
