Stadio Druso, Football stadium in Bolzano, Italy.
Stadio Druso is a football arena in Bolzano, South Tyrol, with two grandstands holding a total of 5,500 spectators. The facility combines smooth concrete surfaces with strict geometric forms that recall buildings from the mid-twentieth century.
The facility was built in 1930 with a single grandstand and reflected the sober style of rationalist architecture at the time. Nearly ninety years later, it was thoroughly rebuilt in 2019 to meet the demands of modern professional football.
The name recalls the Roman general Nero Claudius Drusus, whose troops passed through this area in the first century BC. Visitors today notice the strong concrete forms and straight lines typical of interwar and postwar architectural movements.
The entrance is near the center and easily reached on foot or by public transport. Pathways and open spaces around the facility help visitors with limited mobility access the venue.
The facade from the thirties was dismantled during renovation, restored piece by piece, and then inserted into the expanded structure. This method allowed the historic outer shell to remain while creating new operational spaces behind it.
