Vulcanal, Roman temple in Roman Forum, Italy
The Volcanale consists of an open-air altar built into the slopes of Capitoline Hill, featuring a tufa pavement with drainage channels.
The temple dates back to the 8th century BC and marks the location where Romulus and Tatius established peace between Latins and Sabines.
The sacred site functioned as a gathering place for public assemblies during the early Roman monarchy before the establishment of the Comitium.
Visitors can observe the temple foundations and carved steps in the tufa of Capitoline Hill leading toward the Temple of Concord.
Archaeological findings reveal that two sacred trees grew near the temple, with their reported age predating the establishment of Rome.
