Pizes de Puez

Pizes de Puez is a mountain summit in the Puez-Odle Nature Park known for its steep limestone cliffs and distinctive rock formations. The peak rises prominently from the surrounding Dolomite landscape with dramatic vertical faces that dominate the skyline.

The area surrounding Pizes de Puez became protected as a nature park in 1978 through a conservation effort. This designation changed how the region was managed and helped preserve the landscape and its natural features.

The Ladin people of the valleys here speak their own language and maintain a distinct mountain culture visible in daily life and local customs. You can sense this identity throughout the region, from traditional building styles to how locals use these high areas.

Marked hiking trails start from Selva di Val Gardena and lead to the summit, with the best visiting season from mid-June through early October. Bring proper footwear and weather protection, as conditions at altitude can change quickly.

The rock faces display different geological layers revealing marine sediments from the Triassic period, when this area lay beneath an ancient sea. These visible layers tell a story of how the landscape was shaped over millions of years.
