Sacro Monte di Belmonte

The Sacro Monte di Belmonte features thirteen chapels arranged in a ring pattern around a central sanctuary on a hilltop position.

Construction of the sacred site began in 1712 under the direction of Michelangelo de Montiglio, who established the first eight chapels.

The chapels contain sculptures and frescoes depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary, representing key moments in Catholic religious narratives.

The sacred mountain complex extends across 146,000 square meters and provides marked pathways for visitors to follow the devotional route.

Archaeological findings indicate continuous human presence on Belmonte hill from the 13th to 5th century BC during Bronze and Iron Ages.
