Castello di Rivara

Castello di Rivara is a castle complex made up of two distinct buildings in northern Italy. The older structure displays Gothic features with terracotta windows, while the newer construction has a rectangular layout with a central tower.

The older building rose between the 12th and 14th centuries under the Valperga family. Around 1835, a new wing was added, shaping the overall layout of the complex as it appears today.

The name comes from the medieval fortifications that once dominated this area. Visitors today experience how the old stone walls and towers frame modern artworks, creating an unusual dialogue between centuries.

The location sits in Piazza Sillano and is easy to reach by car with parking available on-site. A cafe and bookstore are located within the complex, offering places to rest and browse during your visit.

The castle displays works by renowned international artists like Paul McCarthy and Charles Ray within its historic rooms. This merging of medieval walls with contemporary artworks creates an unexpected and striking contrast throughout the space.
