Monte Stivo

Monte Stivo is a mountain summit in Trentino that rises to 2059 meters between the Sarca Valley and Vallagarina. From its peak, you can see across Lake Garda and to the surrounding Alpine peaks beyond.

The mountain served as a strategic observation post during World War I, where troops monitored movements across the valleys. This military role marked an important chapter in the mountain's history.

Local shepherds use the slopes for traditional alpine farming, and old cheese-making methods continue to shape how people work the land. These practices give the mountainside its character and show how communities have lived with these peaks for centuries.

The trail from Malga Campo follows route 617 through beech forests and rocky ground, taking about four hours to reach the top. Basic hiking gear is needed, and the Prospero Marchetti refuge sits just below the summit for those needing shelter.

A circular metal compass at the top helps visitors identify and recognize distant peaks in the landscape. This practical tool makes the view even more interesting for those wanting to understand the surrounding mountains better.
