Villa Forni Cerato, Renaissance villa in Montecchio Precalcino, Italy
Villa Forni Cerato is a three-level Renaissance villa in Montecchio Precalcino featuring a central loggia accessed by a prominent exterior staircase on its southern side. The building displays a serliana opening in the middle level, a typical element of Venetian Renaissance design.
Wood merchant Girolamo Forni commissioned architect Andrea Palladio in the 1540s to transform an existing structure into this villa. The modifications to the earlier building created one of the important residential houses of the Venetian countryside in that period.
Two original fireplaces created by Alessandro Vittoria remain in the corner rooms, displaying carved scrolls supported by lion feet. These decorative elements show the wealth the family possessed when the building was made.
The villa can be visited through guided tours offered by the Villa Forni Cerato Foundation after the building reopened to the public in September 2023 following restoration work. Visitors should arrange visits in advance to best experience the Renaissance structure and its interior details.
The villa stands near the former Porta delle Legne, a gate in the Venetian wall that controlled timber shipments along the Astico river canal. This location connected the merchant family directly to major trade routes of the region during the Renaissance.
