Forte Colle delle Benne

Forte Colle delle Benne is a military fort in Levico Terme situated on San Biagio hill at approximately 660 meters in elevation. The structure overlooks Lake Levico and the northern reaches of Valsugana valley with its polygonal layout and reinforced northern side.

The fort was constructed between 1880 and 1882 by the Austro-Hungarian Empire as part of its defense strategy in the region. The design incorporated an extended trench network that protected the polygonal structure with its heavily reinforced northern perimeter.

The structure displays the characteristic horseshoe design typical of Vogl forts, with multiple building blocks that form distinct wings. This layout shapes how the place looks and reveals how military architecture was meant to function.

The fort is accessible via a well-maintained municipal road that leads to the site. Basic facilities including restroom services and partial electrical access are available at the location.

The fort extends across municipal boundaries, spanning two separate communes. This cross-border layout reveals how ambitious defensive projects of that era were and how structures transcended local administrative divisions.
