The Basilica di San Giovanni Battista is a church in Busto Arsizio with three naves separated by Ionic columns and featuring barrel vaults. The facade is decorated with paired Ionic pilasters and bronze doors.
Construction began in 1609 under architect Francesco Maria Richini, following baroque design principles. The bell tower is older, dating from the 15th century, making it the oldest part of the complex.
Eight large paintings along the central nave show important moments from the life of Saint John the Baptist. The Marliani family commissioned these works, which shape the character of the interior space.
The basilica maintains regular opening hours and welcomes visitors throughout the day. The interior decoration and architectural details are best viewed during daylight hours when light highlights the paintings and columns.
The adjacent mortorio chapel displays visible remains through openings, showing characteristics of Lombard baroque building methods. This hidden detail offers insight into construction practices of the period.
