Chiusi National Archaeological Museum

The Chiusi National Archaeological Museum is located in a neoclassical building dating from 1901 and displays artifacts from Etruscan civilization arranged chronologically across two floors. The collection includes funerary vessels, ceramics, sculptures, and bronzes spanning several ancient periods, documenting the region's history.

The museum was established in 1871, growing from systematic excavations during the 1800s that uncovered numerous Etruscan artifacts across the region. This institution preserves evidence of one of ancient Italy's most important civilizations and documents its development.

The collection displays canopic jars, painted urns, and Attic ceramics depicting Greek mythology, reflecting how people here honored their dead and their beliefs about the afterlife. These objects show the customs and values that shaped daily life in this ancient society.

The museum offers guided tours to Etruscan burial chambers located outside the city walls as part of the visit. The building is straightforward to navigate, and you can explore the collection in a few hours without feeling rushed.

The Dolciano canopic jar, displayed on an ornate bronze throne, is one of the most significant Etruscan funerary pieces and immediately draws your eye. This masterwork reveals the craftsmanship and religious care the Etrusks put into their burial equipment.
