Villa La Quiete, Renaissance villa in Castello district, Florence, Italy
Villa La Quiete is a Renaissance manor house in Florence's Castello district, positioned at the foot of Monte Morello. The property features an Italian garden, multiple structures with religious architectural details, and the Church of Montalve within its grounds.
The property was originally called Palagio of Quarto and passed to Niccolò da Tolentino in 1438 from the Orlandini family. It subsequently became part of the Medici holdings and remained significant within Florentine artistic circles.
The name comes from Giovanni da San Giovanni's 1632 fresco 'La Quiete che domina i venti,' which shows tranquility overcoming stormy winds. You can still see this artistic vision reflected in how the spaces are decorated and arranged throughout the property.
Access to the property requires advance arrangements through organized tours on specific days of the week. Comfortable footwear is recommended since the grounds include stairs and several elevation changes throughout the site.
Anna Maria Luisa de Medici, the last of her Medici line, chose this property as her residence in 1724. She brought substantial artistic collections that enriched the spaces and can still be appreciated by visitors today.
