Sant'Elena, Gothic church building in Castello district, Venice, Italy
The Sant'Elena church features a brick facade with Gothic elements, including mullioned windows and a rose window above the Renaissance style portal.
The church originated in 1028 as a chapel built by Augustinian monks, later receiving the remains of Saint Helena of Constantinople in 1211.
The church underwent deconsecration during Napoleonic rule in 1810, with its main altarpiece transferred to the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
Located at the eastern end of Venice, Sant'Elena offers free entry and maintains regular opening hours for religious services and visitors.
The church complex includes remnants of the original convent, including sections of the cloister and a central well head from earlier periods.
